  4. maitre de ballet at the Paris Opera 1930-44
  5. and 1947-59. A great experimenter, he
  6. produced his first ballet without music,
  7. Icare, in 1935, and published the same year
  8. the controversial Le Manifeste du
  9. choreographie. He developed the importance of
  10. the male dancer in his Prometheus 1929 and
  11. Romeo and Juliet (music by Prokofiev) 1955.
